Promoting Sustainable Large Timber Afforestation According to FSC^® Criteria to Increase Incomes for Forest Growers and Wood Processing Companies as well as Contribute to Enhance Environmental Protection, Biodiversity Conservation, and Reduced CO₂ Emissions

• Outcomes:

Training on planting and taking care of large timber forests according to FSC standards: QNAFOR has organized 56 training courses on techniques of planting and taking care of large timber plantations according to FSC standards for 1,680 households (male: 1028, female: 652) in which 981 households are Kinh people and 699 households are M’Nong people (Gie Trieng) belonging to 17 communes in 3 districts of Phuoc Son, Tien Phuoc, and Hiep Duc from November 05, 2018 to February 18, 2020

Training on tending techniques to transform forests according to FSC standards: QNAFOR organized 57 training courses on tending techniques, transforming small timber plantations into FSC-certified large timber plantations in 12 communes of 3 districts of Phuoc Son, Tien Phuoc and Hiep Duc from November 08, 2018 to February 17, 2020. The training course was attended by 1,720 households (1221 men and 499 women).

Providing high quality acacia seedlings for afforestation: QNAFOR in collaboration with the People's Committees of the communes in Phuoc Son, Tien Phuoc, and Hiep Duc districts organized the granting of 1,570,360 high quality Acacia hybrid seedlings produced using tissue culture technology to 333 smallholders/860 ha participating in large timber plantations in the communes.

Organizing tendering and transformation of small timber plantations into large plantations:

- After training on capacity building, QNAFOR staff advocated, propagated, guided, and encouraged people to transform their forests.
- With the guidance and encouragement of QNAFOR, people organized tendering on an area of 2,634.45 ha/503 households. As a result, 1,581.73 ha/432 households fulfilled the requirements.
